Kataka, Oct 2: A 40-year-old man from Jajpur district died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Kataka, with his family alleging that he was assaulted by hospital staff, a source said on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Srikant Das from Pahanga village under Rasulpur block of Jajpur district. He is survived by a daughter and a son.
Family Alleges Assault In Hospital
According to the family, Srikant was sitting at a village square when he suddenly collapsed. He was subsequently taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka for treatment.
After receiving initial treatment, he was shifted to the psychiatric ward.
The deceased was identified as Srikant Das from Pahanga village under Rasulpur block of Jajpur district. He is survived by a daughter and a son.

The family alleged that more than three medical staff members assaulted Srikant in the ward. His wife reportedly objected to the alleged assault but claimed that her pleas were ignored.
She has further alleged that the staff members assaulted her husband while under the influence of alcohol.
The family claimed that injury marks were visible on different parts of Srikant's body following the incident.

Police Begin Investigation
Following a written complaint filed by Srikant's younger brother, cops from Mangalabag police station launched an investigation into the incident.
The allegations of assault and the actual cause of Srikant's death are yet to be established and are expected to become clear after the investigation.
She has further alleged that the staff members assaulted her husband while under the influence of alcohol.
The family claimed that injury marks were visible on different parts of Srikant's body following the incident.
