Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: Police arrested another fake doctor for allegedly cheating a woman’s family of Rs 22 lakh by making false promises of marriage.

The accused was identified as Ranjib Kumar Pradhan, who was arrested by cops from Pahal Police Station following a complaint.

According to the complaint, the accused came in contact with the woman and her family in 2021 through a matrimonial website. He introduced himself as Dr Prakash Pradhan and claimed that the marriage proposal was for his younger brother, Tushar Pradhan.

False Claims of Medical and Banking Careers
The accused allegedly told the complainant’s family that he was a doctor and that his younger brother Tushar was working as a Deputy Manager at the State Bank of India (SBI) in Rayagada. Trusting these claims, the woman’s family continued communication with him regarding the proposed marriage.

Police said the accused later demanded money from the woman’s father on the pretext of arranging various bank-related policies. Over time, he allegedly collected a total of Rs 22 lakh from the family.

Complaint Filed After Accused Became Unreachable

After receiving the money, the accused reportedly stopped responding to calls and messages. Following this, the woman approached Pahal Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.

During the investigation, police found that Ranjib Kumar Pradhan is not a doctor and that he does not have any brothers, contrary to his claims made to the complainant’s family.
