Rayagada, Feb 3: An 81-year-old man was allegedly stoned to death in Shundhipadar village of Sharadahpur Gram Panchayat under Ambadal police station on Monday night.


The deceased has been identified as Chichiram Bag.


According to reports, Bag was attacked by unidentified assailants who allegedly accused him of practicing witchcraft. Though the exact motive remains unclear, villagers suspect that superstition and long-standing tensions may have played a role in the crime.


Following the incident, police officials reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.

While the officials are working to identify those responsible, the body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further details are awaited.


Authorities have also assured strict action against those found guilty.
