Drinking Water Quality Under Focus
Alongside cleanliness enforcement, ECoR has also intensified checks on drinking water quality and sanitation facilities at railway stations and railway colonies.

A special campaign conducted from August 18 to September 3, 2026, covered drinking water quality checks at 175 railway stations and 160 railway colonies.

ECoR said surprise inspections of drinking water facilities are continuing even after the special campaign. Regular cleaning of water tanks and water coolers at stations is also being carried out to ensure the supply of safe drinking water to passengers.

'Swachhata Hi Seva' Campaign Underway
The measures are part of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' campaign being observed from September 17 to October 2. This year's theme is “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag: Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, with emphasis on public participation, behavioural change, responsible waste management and sustainable cleanliness.

ECoR is conducting several activities, including clean-station and clean-train drives, cleaning of drains and toilets, segregation of waste at source, awareness programmes on solid waste management, “No Plastic” campaigns and removal of accumulated waste.

The railway administration has also urged passengers, employees, licensed vendors and other stakeholders to actively participate in keeping railway premises clean.

ECoR said the enhanced enforcement measures are being pursued alongside awareness and public participation to encourage greater responsibility and sustained behavioural change.
