Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: Durgaprasad Chhuria, husband of BJD leader Snehasangini Chhuria, has been suspended from government service following allegations of his involvement in political activities, a source said Tuesday.
Durgaprasad Chhuria, who is serving as a senior assistant registrar in the state Cooperative Societies Department, was suspended by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Odisha.
According to the suspension order, the action was taken following allegations that Durgaprasad was associated with a political party and had participated in its activities.
Durgaprasad had earlier served as a sub-registrar in Kandhamal district.

Restrictions During Suspension

She rose to prominence in Odisha politics after being elected as the MLA from Attabira constituency twice, in 2014 and 2019. During her tenure as a legislator, then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik appointed her Minister of State for Cooperation, Handloom and Textiles, a position she held from 2014 to 2019.

In December 2020, Chhuria was appointed president of the Biju Mahila Janata Dal, the party’s women’s wing. However, her recent electoral bid ended in defeat when she contested the Nuapada Assembly by-election on November 11, 2025. The results, announced on November 14, saw Chhuria finish third, while BJP candidate Jay Dholakia won the seat by a margin of 83,748 votes.
Currently, Chhuria is the president of the Biju Mahila Janata Dal.
