BJP Lodges Police Complaint Against Sulata Deo Over Objectionable Image of Nitin Nabin

Key Points

The Odisha BJP lodged a police complaint against BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sulata Deo, alleging she violated the Flag Code by posting an AI-generated image showing BJP president Nitin Nabin holding the national flag upside down.
Bhubaneswar, Aug 15: The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday lodged a complaint at Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar against Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha MP Sulata Deo, alleging that she violated the Flag Code and posted an objectionable AI-generated image concerning BJP national president Nitin Nabin on social media.

The Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that Deo uploaded an AI-generated image showing Nitin Nabin holding the national flag upside down and accused her of misusing artificial intelligence and making an objectionable post against the saffron party's national president.

The BJP has sought stringent action against Deo over the alleged post and Flag Code violation.

Satarupa Mishra, spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Odisha unit, said, "Biju Janata Dal MP Sulata Deo has violated the Flag Code. She has tarnished the dignity of our national president and misused artificial intelligence."

"Our national president was holding the flag correctly, but it was shown upside down using AI. Therefore, we have lodged a complaint at the Capital Police Station today and demanded stringent action against Sulata Deo", Mishra added.

The allegations made by the BJP are subject to police verification.

It can be mentioned here that Sulata Deo holds a key BJD Rajya Sabha role, as Naveen Patnaik on April 12 this year had formally appointed her as the Deputy Leader and Chief Whip of the Biju Janata Dal Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha.

In an official communication dated April 12, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Patnaik had also elevated Manas Ranjan Mangaraj as the Leader of the BJD Parliamentary Party in the Upper House.
