Sambalpur, Oct 5: Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday has urged residents of the district to participate in a district-wide cleanliness drive scheduled to be held on October 10 under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’.

In a video message, Pradhan appealed to citizens, youth, women, elected representatives and members of various organisations to participate in the cleanliness campaign and help keep Sambalpur clean, beautiful, garbage-free and healthy.

‘Cleanliness Should Become A People’s Movement’
Addressing the people of Sambalpur, Pradhan said cleanliness and purity have traditionally held an important place in Odisha’s culture and traditions.
Referring to the ‘Lakshmi Purana’, he said cleanliness has traditionally been associated with the presence of Goddess Lakshmi and pointed out that people clean their homes and surroundings before festivals and religious observances.

Pradhan also invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness, saying the freedom fighter viewed it as an important foundation for a healthy society and better life.

He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’, saying keeping the surroundings clean is a form of service to society, the country and future generations.

Appeal To Sambalpur Residents
Pradhan described Sambalpur as a place associated with Maa Samaleswari, freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai and poet Gangadhar Meher, and highlighted its cultural and literary significance.
