Dharmendra Pradhan Attends Key Review Meetings on Road, Rail and MCL Projects in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sep 30: Sambalpur MP and former Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday attended a series of review meetings in Bhubaneswar with State’s Ministers and MLAs to assess the progress of major road, railway and mining-linked development projects across Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal and Deogarh districts in Odisha, officials said.

Road infrastructure focus

During a meeting attended by Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra and legislators from Angul, Athmallik, Pallahara, Chhendipada and Parjang, discussions centred on the implementation of ongoing National Highway and state road projects.

Pradhan emphasised the need to expedite construction of the Angul-Chhendipada road, Jarapada-Chhendipada bypass and Patrapada-Handapa road. He stressed the importance of preparing a plan to minimise inconvenience to local residents during project execution.

The meeting also reviewed several road infrastructure proposals in Sambalpur, including the Sambalpur Ring Road, Burla Bypass, Hirakud Bypass, Remeda-Hirakud road, a bridge connecting Burla and Hirakud, the Shahid Chowk-Khanduala Mahanadi Embankment Ring Road and the expansion of the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda road.

MCL committee meeting

At a separate meeting of the special committee on Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Angul district, Pradhan discussed issues concerning displaced families in mining areas, local employment opportunities, environmental protection and the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects.

The discussions focused on improving roads, drinking water supply, healthcare and educational infrastructure through CSR funds in mining-affected regions. Participants also deliberated on compensation for families impacted by land acquisition, faster recruitment of local residents, measures to control pollution and dust generated by mining operations, and plantation activities aimed at environmental conservation.

Rail connectivity projects

Pradhan also participated in a railway infrastructure review meeting with MLAs from Angul, Pallahara, Chhendipada and Parjang. The meeting examined plans for strengthening rail infrastructure, constructing new railway lines and enhancing transportation facilities in Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur and Deogarh districts.

Key projects discussed included the Talcher Coalfields Inner and Outer Corridors, the long-pending Talcher-Bimlagarh railway line, Barkote-Lapanga rail link and the Talcher-Sukinda Road railway project. The participants reviewed their progress and future operational plans, highlighting the government's focus on improving regional connectivity and supporting economic growth.
