Key Points

Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan led the Tiranga Yatra in Dhenkanal, paying tribute to Baji Rout and other freedom fighters. The march, alongside the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, reflected patriotic fervour as Odisha honoured its freedom struggle legacy ahead of India’s centenary of Independence.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: Senior BJP leader and Sambalpur MP  Dharmendra Pradhan joined the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, paying homage to Baji Rout, India’s youngest martyr of the freedom struggle, and other freedom fighters on Friday on the eve of the 80th Independence Day.

The march, held at Bhuban and Neelakanthpur, drew enthusiastic participation from citizens and youth, turning the event into a vibrant display of patriotism.

In his remarks, Pradhan described Baji Rout as an “immortal symbol of youth, courage, sacrifice, patriotism and valour.” He recalled how the boy, barely in his teens, gave his life resisting British forces, a sacrifice that continues to inspire generations.

He also highlighted the contributions of other revolutionaries from the region—Sarangadhar Das, Baishnab Pattnaik, Musha Mallik, Mahesh Chandra Subahu Singh and Pabitra Mohan Pradhan—whose sacrifices made Dhenkanal a prominent centre of the freedom movement.

Ongoing Tiranga Yatra

The Tiranga Yatra, being organised across Odisha and nationwide, is aimed at rekindling patriotic fervour as India approaches 100 years of Independence. In Dhenkanal, the march was marked by tricolour flags, slogans, and spirited participation from youth groups.

The Sambalpur MP described the yatra as “our pride and our self‑respect,” noting that the enthusiasm of the people reflected the enduring spirit of sacrifice and nationalism.

Earlier in the day, Pradhan also hoisted the national flag at his residence in Bhubaneswar as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. He said the initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, has created a unique wave of nationalism across the country, encouraging citizens to display the tricolour at their homes as a symbol of unity, peace and social harmony.

As the nation moves towards the centenary of independence, leaders emphasized the need to carry forward the legacy of Odisha’s freedom fighters by building a stronger and more developed state. The Tiranga Yatra in Dhenkanal thus served both as a tribute to the past and a call to shape the future.
