Baripada, Sep 13: A shocking incident unfolded in Mayurbhanj district when an accused who had earlier slipped from police custody returned at night to a roadside eatery and carried out a violent attack.
The incident took place at Gunjan Dhaba near Gaddeulia Chhak under Baishinga police limits along National Highway 18. According to reports, four youths from Naharpatna area of Balasore district arrived at the dhaba around 3 pm on Saturday.
They allegedly insisted on consuming alcohol inside the premises. When employee Gopal Madak refused, the youths threatened him and forcibly drank despite objections.

✨At that time, a police patrolling team from Baishinga station happened to pass by. Seeing the commotion, officers intervened. Three of the youths managed to flee, while one was caught and placed inside a police van.
However, due to inadequate manpower, the accused escaped from custody. Police later seized his motorcycle parked outside the dhaba and took it to the station.
The matter escalated further at night. The same group of youths allegedly returned armed with sharp weapons. They confronted Gopal about the seized motorcycle. When he explained that police had taken it, the youths became enraged. They reportedly attacked him with deadly weapons, leaving him critically injured.
The assailants also looted around ₹7,000 from the dhaba
counter before fleeing the scene. Fellow workers and locals rushed Gopal to
Baishinga hospital, where he received preliminary treatment. A written
complaint was lodged at Baishinga police station, and investigations are
underway.
