Koraput, Oct 10: The decomposed body of Damodar Tripathy, a warder posted at Koraput Circle Jail, was recovered from a government quarter after neighbours alerted police about a foul smell coming from inside, a source said on Saturday.
According to the source, Tripathy hailed from Kelanagar in Koraput's Jeypore. Neighbours alerted police after noticing the smell emanating from the quarter.
Police reached the spot and broke open the door to enter the premises, where they found the decomposed body.
Warder Had Been Absent From Duty Since September 25
During the preliminary investigation, police found that Tripathy had not reported for duty since September 25.
The cause of his death has not yet been ascertained. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
