Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: The India Meteorological Department
(IMD) on Thursday said that a cyclonic circulation has formed over the
southeast Bay of Bengal, which is expected to evolve into a low-pressure area
within the next 48 hours.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards
towards Sri Lanka and subsequently influence weather conditions in Odisha, the IMD predicted.
Under its impact, light rain accompanied by lightning is
forecast in several districts of the state on February 23 and 24. The IMD has
issued a yellow warning for multiple districts, cautioning of thunderstorms
with wind speeds reaching 30–40 kmph.
On February 23, light rain or thundershowers are likely to
occur in isolated places of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur,
Nuapada, Kalahandi, Sundergarh, Kendrapada, Khordha, Puri, Jajpur, Keonjhar,
Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur districts. The yellow
weather warning has been issued for Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Jajpur,
Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Puri, Nuapada, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur,
Nawarangpur, Koraput, Kalahandi, and Malkangiri.

On February 24, rain is likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur,
Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, and Nayagarh, with a
yellow warning issued for Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, and Khordha.

The IMD has advised residents to remain alert and take
necessary precautions against lightning and gusty winds. Farmers and fishermen
have also been urged to monitor weather updates closely, as localized
thunderstorms may affect agricultural activities and coastal conditions.
