Calamity / Cyclone Montha: Landfall Process Begins Off Andhra Coast

Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: The landfall process of severe cyclonic storm
Montha has begun off the Andhra Pradesh coast and it will continue for the next
three to four hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
In a post on X, the IMD said the latest observations
indicated that the landfall process of Montha has commenced.
The cyclone, moving north-northwestwards at 15 kmph, was centred at 4:30 PM IST on October 28, 2025, over the west-central Bay of Bengal, near latitude 15.8°N and longitude 82.4°E — about 50 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, 130 km south of Kakinada, and 230 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam.
According to the IMD, Cyclone Montha will continue moving north-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, around Kakinada, within the next few hours as a severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds of 90–100 kmph gusting up to 110 kmp.

The storm is expected to make landfall tonight, bringing with it heavy rain, strong winds, and dangerous sea conditions.
The IMD has issued red alerts for 19 coastal districts of
Andhra Pradesh, warning of extremely heavy rainfall, flooding, and possible
storm surges.

Similarly, IMD has issued red warnings for heavy to
extremely heavy rainfall in Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Kalahandi
districts in Odisha. Orange and yellow warnings have been issued for Kandhamal,
Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Puri districts, where heavy to very heavy
rainfall is also likely.
