Cuttack, Oct 5: In view of recent tensions, the administration has decided to suspend internet services in Cuttack for 24 hours.
The shutdown will remain in effect until 7 pm, Monday. Popular social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat will be inaccessible during this period.
The Home Department has issued an official notification regarding the suspension of mobile internet services. The restriction applies specifically to areas under Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Cuttack Development Authority (CDA), and the Bayalish Mouza region.
This move aims to curb the spread of misinformation and maintain public order amidst the unrest.
Cuttack had witnessed a tense situation on Friday as two groups clashed during an immersion procession near Hati Pokhari Chhak. The altercation reportedly began over a dispute regarding the cleaning of the procession route and quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on the other hand, has expressed deep sorrow and urged citizens to uphold peace and harmony.
Addressing the issue, he emphasized the historical and cultural significance of Cuttack, calling it a city that has stood as a symbol of brotherhood for over a thousand years.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that disturbances caused by a few unruly elements have disrupted the city's tranquility and affected the daily lives of its residents. He assured that the government is closely monitoring the situation and will take strict legal action against those responsible for inciting unrest.
CM Majhi appealed to all communities to come together and preserve the legacy of Cuttack by maintaining peace and unity. He stressed that the strength of the city lies in its diversity and mutual respect, and urged citizens to work collectively to safeguard its heritage and pride.
The government has also initiated measures to restore
normalcy and ensure public safety. Security has been heightened in sensitive
areas, and community leaders are being engaged to promote dialogue and
understanding.
