Cuttack Gears Up For Maa Kali Idol Immersion Procession Amid Tight Security

Cuttack, Oct 24: Cuttack city is set to witness the grand immersion procession of Maa Kali idols today, with 75 puja mandaps participating in the ceremonial farewell. Following a grand procession of across the city, the idols will be immersed at Devigada.

 

To ensure a peaceful conclusion to the festivities, the Commissionerate Police has implemented extensive security measures. CCTV-equipped rooftop surveillance and mock drills have been conducted along the designated procession route.

 

The preparations come in the wake of the violent group clashes during the Dussehra immersion earlier this month. In response, the administration, Cuttack Municipal Corporation, and police authorities have coordinated efforts to prevent any recurrence. Senior officers, along with STU forces, have inspected sensitive areas including Dargha Bazaar, Kadam-e-Rasul, and surrounding localities.

 

Amid lingering public concern over past unrest, the DCP has issued two helpline numbers: 7328077324 and 8480513007, for citizens to report suspicious messages or activities. Residents have been advised not to trust rumours or misinformation circulating during the event.

Certain areas have been declared as silence zones in Cuttack city. The area near City Hospital under Dargha Bazaar police limits has been designated as a silence zone. According to Police Commissioner S.Devdatta Singh, 50 platoons of police force and 60 special tactical units will be deployed across the city.

 

The city had previously witnessed communal tension during the Durga immersion at Hati Pokhari Square, Dargha Bazar Square and Kadam-e-Rasul area, which led to a 36-hour curfew. Normalcy has since returned, and peace has been restored in the city known for its communal harmony.

 

Although the curfew has been lifted, police patrolling continues, with forces deployed at sensitive locations.
