Cuttack, Oct 6: In response to recent disturbances in Cuttack, the Odisha government has ordered a temporary suspension of internet services across key areas of the city until 7 PM on October 7, officials said on Monday.
Earlier, the internet services were suspended in Cuttack for 24 hours from 7 PM on Sunday. The move aims to curb the alleged spread of misinformation and maintain law and order, they said.
Cuttack was placed under a curfew for 36 hours till 10 am on Tuesday in 13 of the 20 police station areas of the city, they added.
Targeted Areas Under Restriction
The internet shutdown will be enforced in the Cuttack Municipal Corporation area, CDA region, and 42 Mouza zones. These areas have been identified as sensitive following recent incidents of unrest. The decision was made based on the recommendation of the Cuttack District Collector to prevent antisocial elements from inciting further tension.
Preventive Measures to Ensure Peace
The Home Department stated that the internet suspension is a precautionary step to prevent the circulation of provocative content and fake news that could disrupt public harmony. Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement during this period.

Clash At Dargah Bazaar
According to police and witnesses, the first outbreak of violence occurred between 1:30 am and 2 am on Saturday, when a Durga idol immersion procession passing through the Dargha Bazaar area towards the banks of the Kathajodi river was halted by a group of locals who objected to high-decibel music being played late at night.
The clash escalated as stones and bottles were allegedly hurled from rooftops, prompting retaliation. Several were injured, including DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo.
Meanwhile, police are investigating the incident and urging restraint amid heightened tensions.
