Anugola, Oct 4: In a tragic turn of events, a lawyer and his ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) wife from Jarasingha village in Anugola district died of heart attacks on the same day, leaving their 16-year-old daughter orphaned, a source said on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as lawyer Pabitra Pradhan, 50, and his wife Sabitri Nayak, 41, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) at Bantala Community Health Centre.

According to the source, the couple’s family was living a normal life until Saturday morning, when Pabitra suddenly complained of severe chest pain at their home. He collapsed and was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Anugola. However, doctors declared him dead.

Soon after, Sabitri reportedly suffered a heart attack after learning about her husband’s death. She was immediately admitted to a private nursing home in Anugola, the source added.

Despite efforts by doctors, her condition did not improve. She was being shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for further treatment when she reportedly died on the way.

The deaths of the couple on the same day have left residents of Jarasingha village in shock. The couple had a 16-year-old daughter, who is now left without both her parents.

Pabitra’s mortal remains were taken in a procession through the local market before being taken to the Anugola court premises. More than 100 lawyers paid their last respects and joined his final journey.

Sabitri was working as an ANM at Bantala Community Health Centre. Her death has also left her colleagues and other health workers deeply saddened.
