Woman Found Dead in Kataka Lodge After SCB Hospital Visit; Special Team Formed to Trace Companion

Kataka, Oct 4: A woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a lodge in Kataka’s Mangalabag area, prompting police to launch an investigation, a source said on Sunday.

The woman’s body was recovered from the bathroom of Room No. 125 at Shree Binayak Lodge on Medical Road under Mangalabag police station limits. The incident came to light on Saturday night.

According to the source, the woman, who was from Baleshwar district, had arrived at the lodge with a male companion around 6:30 pm on Friday. She had reportedly come to Kataka for medical treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Police said the woman had undergone treatment at the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of SCB Medical College and Hospital on Saturday, according to her medical records.

Her body was found lying inside the bathroom in an unusual condition. Police noted that cotton had been placed in her nostrils and her eyes were open when the body was recovered. The circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be established.

The male companion who had reportedly accompanied her to the lodge is currently missing. Police have launched a search operation and formed a special team to trace him.

Police have also seized CCTV footage from the areas surrounding the lodge, along with the woman’s medicines, medical prescriptions, vanity bag and mobile phone. These items are expected to form part of the investigation.

Police conducted a post-mortem examination and subsequently handed over the body to the woman’s family.

The exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem findings and further investigation.
