National Security / Commissionerate Police Bars Cops From Social Media Posts In Uniform

Bhubaneswar, Sep 20: Police officers on duty will no longer be allowed to post photographs or videos on social media while wearing their uniforms, particularly when deployed at sensitive locations, under new guidelines issued by the Commissionerate Police.

The move comes amid concerns that photographs and videos recorded and posted by personnel while on duty could pose security risks by revealing sensitive locations and operational details.

Social Media Rules Tightened For Police Personnel
Under the new guidelines, police officers deployed at sensitive locations will not be permitted to post photographs or videos on social media while in uniform.

Officials have tightened the rules after instances of personnel recording and uploading photographs and videos from different locations while on duty raised security concerns.

The guidelines are aimed at preventing the disclosure of information that could compromise security arrangements or reveal the deployment of police personnel at sensitive locations.

Delhi Constable Suspended Over Instagram Reel
The move comes against the backdrop of a recent incident in Delhi, where a police constable was suspended after a video of him making an Instagram reel while handling a firearm went viral on social media.

The constable was wearing an identity card for the BRICS Summit 2026 in the video.


The footage drew criticism online, with viewers questioning the appropriateness of posting such content while handling a firearm during a high-security international event.

According to officials, the constable was posted in the Delhi Police’s north-west district. A departmental inquiry was initiated against him.

The incident came as tight security arrangements were in place in the national capital for the second day of the 18th BRICS Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam.
