Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: Odisha is once again in the grip of a cold wave after a short break, with temperatures dropping significantly across several districts. Meteorologists confirmed that the clearing of cloud cover from the skies has led to a sharp fall in mercury levels, particularly in coastal regions, where the dip was recorded at 3.6°C compared to the previous day.

At 5:30 a.m. today, Jharsuguda reported the lowest temperature at 9.4°C, while Keonjhar registered 11.6°C. Bhubaneswar recorded 13.4°C, a notable drop from yesterday’s 17°C at the same time. Other districts also felt the chill, with Balasore at 14°C, Chandbali at 14.8°C, and Paradip at 15°C. The sudden fall has intensified winter conditions across the state, with residents experiencing biting cold during early morning hours.

According to weather scientist Umashankar Das, the return of the cold wave is expected to persist for the next few days. The state government has urged citizens to take precautions, especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. With temperatures dipping steadily, Odisha is bracing for a harsher winter phase, reminding people that the season’s chill is far from over.
