Jan 12: Odisha is
once again in the grip of a cold wave after a short break, with temperatures
dropping significantly across several districts. Meteorologists confirmed that
the clearing of cloud cover from the skies has led to a sharp fall in mercury
levels, particularly in coastal regions, where the dip was recorded at 3.6°C
compared to the previous day.
At 5:30 a.m.
today, Jharsuguda reported the lowest temperature at 9.4°C, while Keonjhar
registered 11.6°C. Bhubaneswar recorded 13.4°C, a notable drop from yesterday’s
17°C at the same time. Other districts also felt the chill, with Balasore at
14°C, Chandbali at 14.8°C, and Paradip at 15°C. The sudden fall has intensified
winter conditions across the state, with residents experiencing biting cold
during early morning hours.
According to
weather scientist Umashankar Das, the return of the cold wave is expected to
persist for the next few days. The state government has urged citizens to take
precautions, especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
With temperatures dipping steadily, Odisha is bracing for a harsher winter
phase, reminding people that the season’s chill is far from over.
