Bhubaneswar, Nov 16: The Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre has issued a cold-wave alert for the next 24 hours, warning of intense cold conditions in several districts of Odisha.
According to latest update by the weather department, Khordha, Cuttack, Angul, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh are expected to experience a sharp drop in temperatures.
Following this, the weather department has urged residents to remain alert.
On Sunday, the Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack witnessed a significant dip in mercury levels, with minimum temperatures recorded at 13°C and 13.4°C respectively — nearly 6.4°C below the seasonal average.

The sudden chill has caught many off guard, especially as winter typically sets in gradually across the region. Meteorological officials predict that night temperatures will remain steady over the next three to four days before dipping further.
The cold wave is attributed to northwesterly winds sweeping across the state, bringing dry and chilly air from the northern plains. Local administrations have advised vulnerable populations — especially children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions — to stay warm and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.
As Odisha braces for a prolonged cold spell, residents are encouraged to follow weather updates and adopt safety measures to stay protected during this period of intense chill.
