Wildlife / Cobra’s Bizarre Bird Cage Trap Leaves Banki Family Terrified

Malkangiri/ Banki, Aug 13: A three-foot spectacled cobra was rescued after it entered a bird cage at a house near Banki market in Kataka district, a source said Thursday.

According to the source, the snake entered the cage at the house of Prashant Mishra on Wednesday afternoon. The cobra swallowed two pet birds inside the cage and was subsequently unable to get out.

The family members became frightened after hearing the snake hissing from inside the cage.

They then contacted Snake Helpline member Lalit Mohan Panda, who reached the spot and safely rescued the cobra from the cage.

Following the rescue, the snake reportedly regurgitated the bodies of its prey.

Man Attacked By Bear While Grazing Cattle
In a separate incident, a 50-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a bear while he had gone to a nearby forest to graze cattle in Malkangiri district, a source said Thursday.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon in Tekguda village under Kalimela police station limits.

According to the source, the injured man, identified as Deba Madkami (50) from Tekguda village, had gone to the Kanaguda forest, located near the village, at around 3 pm on Tuesday to graze his cows

At the time, a female bear was present in the forest along with two cubs. The bear suddenly attacked Deba, leaving him seriously injured, the source informed.

The animal bit him on his left thigh, causing serious injuries.


Despite being injured, Deba managed to inform ASHA worker Bhime Madkami about the incident over the phone.

Injured Man Shifted To Hospital
After receiving the information, Bhime immediately contacted the 108 ambulance service. An ambulance subsequently reached the area and shifted Deba to the Kalimela Community Health Centre.

He was admitted to the health facility, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
