Wildlife / Baleshwar Family Hears Hissing Sound, Finds 7-Foot Python Inside House

Baleshwar, Aug 11: A family in Odisha's Baleshwar district had a terrifying encounter after a giant python measuring more than 7 feet was found inside their house at Kuligadi village under Shyamsundarpur panchayat in Oupada block.

According to a source, the incident occurred Monday night while family members of former Zilla Parishad member Malati Majhi were preparing to go to sleep. They suddenly heard a hissing sound coming from inside the house.

Python Found Hiding In Corner
Alarmed by the sound, the family members searched the house and were shocked to find a huge python curled up in one corner. The sight of the large snake caused panic among the family members, who immediately alerted a local snake rescuer and the Forest Department.

A snake catcher subsequently reached the spot and safely rescued the reptile, the source added.

Snake Released Into Kuldiha Forest
The rescued python, measuring more than 7 feet, was later released into the nearby forest of the Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary.

The timely intervention of the snake rescuer ensured that the family members were not harmed. The incident has also highlighted the possibility of snakes entering homes located close to forested areas.

Recent Snakebite Deaths Raise Concern
The incident comes days after a tragic snakebite case was reported from Gajapati district, where a woman and her 7-year-old son died after being bitten by banded kraits while sleeping at their home.

The incident was reported on August 7 at Kadambatal village under Jalang panchayat in Rayagada block.

According to the source, Ajay Kumar Badaraita was sleeping at home with his wife Lalita, 30, their seven-year-old son Amit and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter on Thursday night when two banded kraits allegedly entered the house and bit Lalita and Amit.

Mother, Son Die During Treatment
The cries of the mother and son reportedly woke Ajay, who then saw two snakes moving inside the house. Family members immediately rushed Lalita and Amit to the Rayagada Community Health Centre.

As their condition deteriorated, both were referred to the Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital in Paralakhemundi for advanced treatment. However, Lalita and Amit reportedly died while undergoing treatment.

Ajay and the couple's one-and-a-half-year-old daughter escaped unharmed.
