Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and former Union Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan joined the nation in paying homage to Nana Patekar, whose passing at 75 has left Indian cinema bereft of one of its most powerful voices.

Their tributes went beyond acknowledging his artistry, reflecting on his versatility, iconic dialogue delivery, and deep social commitment — qualities that made him not just a celebrated performer but a figure of integrity and compassion.

CM Majhi, in a post on X, described the loss as a major blow to Indian cinema. “The demise of veteran actor Nana Patekar Ji is a great loss to Indian cinema. Through his exceptional talent, powerful performances and enduring contribution to the arts, he left an indelible mark on generations of audiences. May Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath grant eternal peace to the departed soul and provide strength and solace to his family, friends and countless admirers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti,” he wrote.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed deep sorrow, highlighting Patekar’s remarkable versatility and iconic screen presence. “Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor Nana Patekar Ji. His remarkable body of work, powerful performances, iconic dialogue delivery and distinctive screen presence has left an enduring imprint on Indian cinema. His contribution to the world of films will be remembered for generations. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, supporters and admirers. May his soul rest in peace,” he posted.

Nana Patekar, born in Maharashtra in 1951, was celebrated for his intensity, dialogue delivery, and ability to portray complex characters.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, he delivered unforgettable performances in films such as Salaam Bombay!, Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, and Raajneeti. His passing has left a deep void in Indian cinema, with tributes pouring in from leaders, colleagues, and admirers across the country.
