New Delhi, Oct 8: In a poignant moment for Indian cinema, the passing of Nana Patekar has evoked tributes from the nation’s highest offices.

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders led the country in mourning the legendary actor, whose artistry and social commitment left an indelible mark on generations.

Their heartfelt messages of condolence underscored not only his towering presence on screen but also his enduring legacy beyond it — a reminder that Nana Patekar was more than a performer.

Taking to X, President Murmu wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor Shri Nana Patekar. Through his powerful and deeply evocative performances, he brought to life a wide range of human experiences.”

“He portrayed characters that left a lasting imprint on the hearts and minds of people. His commitment to social service reflected his concern for the underprivileged. His passing is a great loss to Indian cinema. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers,” she added.

Vice President Radhakrishnan also shared his sorrow, stating, “A versatile and immensely talented artist, he brought remarkable depth, sensitivity and authenticity to every character he portrayed. His invaluable contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered. Known for his powerful performances, Nana Patekar Ji will continue to inspire and be cherished by generations of cinema lovers.”

“In this hour of grief, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers,” he added further.

PM Modi remembered Patekar as a rare talent whose artistry left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. “Few actors possessed the intensity, individuality and unmistakable presence that Shri Nana Patekar Ji had. He brought remarkable versatility and creativity to every role and gave us characters that will be remembered for generations. He was also admired for his frank and forthright views, never hesitating to express what he believed in,” he wrote in a post on ‘X’.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Patekar’s fearless personality and his ability to bring depth and authenticity to every performance. “Shri Nana Patekar’s contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema was immense. His passing leaves a deep void. My condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers. Om Shanti,” he noted.

Home Minister Amit Shah described the passing of legendary Indian actor as an irreparable loss to the world of art. “The demise of legendary Indian actor Nana Patekar Ji is an irreparable loss to the world of art. For five decades, he left an indelible mark on audiences with his effortless acting and powerful dialogue delivery. Whether it was serious social themes or humour and satire, he brought every character to life,” wrote HM Shah.

“Through the Naam Foundation, he served drought‑affected farming families, and by visiting the nation’s borders, he encouraged soldiers — remaining deeply connected to his roots even at the peak of fame. Whenever I met him, his simplicity and forthrightness always left a lasting impression. May the Almighty grant strength to his grieving family and admirers to bear this sorrow, and may the departed soul find eternal peace in His divine presence. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti,” he wrote further.

An official statement from Manipal Hospital, Goa, confirmed that the actor was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula and rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him “brought dead.”

Born on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar became renowned for his intensity, dialogue delivery, and ability to portray complex, unconventional characters. His Hindi film debut came with Gaman in 1978, and he soon rose to prominence with Salaam Bombay! and Parinda.

Over four decades, he delivered unforgettable performances in Angaar, Tirangaa, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Yeshwant, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, and Raajneeti, leaving behind a remarkable cinematic legacy.
