Cyclone Alert / Chilika Lake Swells, Admin Issues Public Advisory

Khordha, Oct 3: The coastal region of Balugaon near Chilika Lake is facing a critical situation as continuous rainfall and strong winds have led to a sharp rise in the lake’s water level.

The swelling waters have breached the ring road, causing panic among local residents.

Fishing activities have come to a complete halt due to the turbulent weather. While some fishermen have managed to return safely to shore, concerns remain over others who may still be stranded in the water.

In response, the local administration has issued public advisories urging caution and vigilance.

On the other hand, the Chilika Motorboat Association has warned tourists against visiting the lake, stating that boating and sightseeing are currently unsafe.

All tourism and boat rides have been temporarily suspended, and visitors are being barred from approaching the lakefront.

The administration has imposed a temporary ban on all boat operations, including fishing and passenger transport, and has instructed emergency teams to remain on high alert.
