Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: A car plunged off Shishu Bhawan overbridge in Bhubaneswar after crashing into a barricade, triggering panic in the locality on Monday, a source said.
According to our source from the ground, the vehicle lost control while moving on the flyover and rammed into the barricade before falling from the overbridge. After the fall, the car reportedly struck a tree and was then thrown onto the roof of a nearby house.
Residents in the area rushed out after hearing a loud crash, our source from the ground informed.

The driver had a narrow escape and survived the accident. He was rescued from the damaged vehicle and is reported to be safe. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
The mishap took place under the jurisdiction of the Capital Police Station. Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information and began an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
Traffic movement on the stretch was temporarily affected as authorities worked to clear the damaged vehicle and restore normalcy.
The crash comes amid alarming road safety statistics in Odisha. Data presented in the Odisha Assembly on November 28, 2025, revealed that the state recorded 27,167 road accident deaths over the last five years, averaging 5,433 fatalities annually. During the same period, 50,041 people were injured.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena had informed the House that Odisha reported 56,830 road accidents between 2020 and 2024. Except for 2020 -- when pandemic restrictions reduced fatalities to 4,738 -- annual deaths have consistently remained above 5,000.
To address road safety, the state government spent Rs 89.73 crore on various initiatives between 2020–21 and 2024–25, besides disbursing Rs 23.17 crore as financial assistance to accident victims under the Solatium Fund Scheme.
