Boudh, Mar 5: A routine visit to a Community Health Centre turned tragic in Odisha’s Boudh district, where a youth reportedly lost his life due to alleged medical negligence.
The incident has sparked outrage among family members and villagers, raising serious questions about healthcare practices in the region.
The deceased, identified as Subrat Nayak of Purunakot
village, had gone to the Purunakot CHC for treatment of an itching disease.
According to our source, on-duty doctor Rajat Mahanandia administered an
injection after examining him. However, instead of improving, Subrat’s
condition deteriorated rapidly.

Family members alleged that Subrat became critical within minutes of receiving the injection. He was immediately admitted to the same health centre, where saline and additional medicines were administered.

Despite efforts, his condition worsened, prompting doctors to refer him to the Boudh District Headquarters Hospital. Tragically, Subrat died on the way before reaching the facility.
Relatives have accused the attending doctor of negligence, claiming that the wrong treatment and injection cost Subrat his life. The incident triggered tension in the region, with grieving family members demanding accountability.
Police reached the CHC soon after the incident, seized the body, and began an investigation. Meanwhile, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Boudh reacted strongly, stating that the death of a healthy young man from a minor ailment raises serious concerns. The CDMO assured that the exact cause of death will be determined only after a thorough police investigation.
As the probe continues, the community awaits clarity on
whether Subrat’s death was indeed the result of medical malpractice or an
unforeseen complication.
