Odisha Holi Celebrations Turn Tragic as Three Drown in Separate Incidents

In Jajpur district, two such incidents were reported. A
young boy drowned while bathing in the Kharasrota River after Holi celebrations
in his village. In another case, a youth met a similar fate in the Brahmani
River. Despite immediate rescue attempts by locals, both victims were declared
dead after being retrieved from the water. Authorities have initiated inquiries
and sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations.

Meanwhile, in Cuttack district, another drowning was
reported when a man slipped into deep waters while bathing in the Mahanadi
River. Eyewitnesses said the victim was part of a group that had gone to wash
off colours after the festivities. Rescue teams later recovered the body.
Police officials stated that all three incidents occurred
shortly after Holi celebrations concluded in the respective areas. They urged
citizens to exercise caution while bathing in rivers, particularly during
festive occasions when large gatherings often lead to negligence. “We appeal to
people to avoid risky spots and ensure safety measures are followed,” an
officer said.

The drownings have cast a shadow over the otherwise joyous
festival, reminding communities of the importance of vigilance during
celebrations. Local administrations are expected to review safety protocols
