The H&UD Department and WATCO have boosted Brahmapur's water supply to 72 MLD following Cyclone Arnab. Tankers, production wells and emergency restoration measures are being deployed while work at the Janibilli Intake nears completion and drinking water quality is closely monitored.

Brahmapur, Nov 2: The Odisha Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department, in coordination with the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO), has intensified efforts to restore normal water supply in Brahmapur following the disruption caused by Cyclone Arnab.

The Department said water supply has been restored to MKCG Medical College and Hospital and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER). Water supply systems in Hinjilicut and Gopalpur are also functioning normally.

Officials said ensuring safe drinking water remains a top priority during the restoration phase.

Focus on Water Quality

To safeguard public health, super chlorination measures are being maintained across treatment plants. Pre-chlorination is being carried out at 4 ppm, while post-chlorination levels have been fixed at 10 ppm. Additionally, 2 ppm chlorination is being ensured in tail-end distribution zones to maintain water quality throughout the network.

A Mobile Treatment Unit (MTU) has also been stationed at the Brahmapur Division Office to strengthen operational preparedness.

Janibilli Intake Restoration

Meanwhile, restoration work at the Janibilli Intake is progressing rapidly. Officials said the temporary ponding arrangement has reached nearly 99% completion.

Construction of a sand bund near the intake point is underway on a war footing. Around 15,000 sandbags have already been placed, while another 5,000 sandbags are scheduled to be deployed. An ODRAF team has been stationed at the site to ensure the safety of personnel involved in the restoration works.
