Key Points

Electricity supply has been restored in Asika urban area following flood damage caused by Cyclone Arnab. TPSODL has deployed around 6,500 personnel, supported by 400 vehicles, mobile substations and transit stores, to accelerate power restoration across affected districts in Southern Odisha.

Brahmapur/Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: Electricity supply has been restored in the urban areas of Asika in Odisha's Ganjam district after extensive flooding caused by Cyclone Arnab and the subsequent heavy rainfall disrupted power infrastructure.

Teams engaged in restoration operations worked round the clock to repair damaged electrical installations and restore normalcy to the distribution network despite difficult conditions on the ground.

Flooding Challenges

Asika was among the worst-affected areas, witnessing widespread waterlogging in residential neighbourhoods, markets and commercial establishments. Restoration work was hampered by inundated locations, thick mud deposits, debris accumulation and damage to critical electrical infrastructure.

Power distribution personnel undertook repair activities while strictly adhering to safety protocols, given the hazardous conditions caused by floodwaters and damaged electrical equipment.

Officials said electricity restoration was carried out in phases after assessing the safety of affected installations and the extent of infrastructure damage.

Massive Deployment

To strengthen restoration operations across Southern Odisha, Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has deployed around 6,500 personnel across its eight-district operational area.

The workforce comprises senior officials, engineers, employees, and skilled as well as unskilled project personnel. Teams have been strategically positioned to address outages, conduct damage assessments and expedite restoration work in affected locations.

The large-scale operation has been supported by nearly 400 vehicles, enabling the swift movement of manpower, equipment and emergency materials to flood-hit regions.

Logistics Support

Restoration efforts have also been reinforced through six mobile distribution substations and 16 transit stores established across the operational area. These facilities have helped ensure the availability of essential equipment and materials required for emergency repair works.

Dedicated teams continue to work across divisions to identify faults, repair affected infrastructure and restore power supply in remaining affected pockets.

Officials said the restoration drive would continue until power supply is fully normalized across all cyclone- and flood-affected areas in Southern Odisha.
