Key Points
Balasore, Jul 13: The District Civil & Sessions Court, Balasore in Odisha was on Monday thrown into turmoil after an anonymous email threatened to blow up the court premises with digital bombs. The alarming message, reportedly originating from Lucknow, claimed that six digital explosives would be triggered soon, triggering panic among staff and visitors, officials said.
Following the threat, the court premises witnessed chaos as police forces rushed to secure the area. A bomb disposal squad, accompanied by Sahadevkhunta Police team and additional SPs, immediately began a thorough search operation. Security personnel cordoned off the premises, scanning for suspicious objects while ensuring the safety of those inside.
Police officials are investigating the source of the email, attempting to trace the sender and determine whether the threat is genuine or a hoax. A senior police officer said that the authenticity of the email is under verification, with cyber experts assisting in tracking its origin. “We are treating the matter with utmost seriousness,” said a senior police officer, adding that precautionary measures have been intensified.
This incident is not isolated. In recent months, several courts across Odisha have received similar bomb threats via email, forcing police to adopt heightened vigilance.

✨Several threatening emails were earlier received by authorities of several district courts in Cuttack, Puri, Phulbani, Deogarh and Sambalpur as well as Bhubaneswar airport and passport offices. All were found to be hoax, police said.
While none of the earlier threats materialized, the repeated
pattern has raised concerns about the misuse of digital platforms to spread
fear and disrupt judicial functioning.

The recurring nature of such threats has become a pressing challenge for law enforcement agencies. Police officials acknowledge that even false alarms demand full-scale responses, stretching resources and creating anxiety among the public. Investigators are now exploring whether these threats are part of a coordinated attempt to undermine judicial institutions or simply acts of mischief.
As the probe continues, security has been tightened across Balasore and nearby judicial complexes.
