Urban Development / Bhubaneswar to Get Odisha’s First Pet Crematorium

Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: Odisha is set to witness a historic milestone Monday with the inauguration of the state’s first pet crematorium, a facility dedicated to providing dignified last rites for beloved pets.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will formally inaugurate the crematorium, marking a compassionate step towards modern urban amenities that recognize the emotional bond between humans and their animals.

Alongside this, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is rolling out a series of ambitious projects aimed at improving civic infrastructure and urban living.

A Drainage Master Plan, prepared in collaboration with Roorkee experts, has been finalized to address monsoon-related waterlogging.

In its first phase, areas like ISKCON, Bomikhal, Rudrapur Canal, and Naharkanta will see major drainage upgrades. Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have already been prepared, and tenders for ISKCON drainage works have been floated.

Waste management is another priority. BMC plans to commission a Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant by the end of this year, reducing the load on existing Micro Composting Centres (MCCs). An MoU will soon be signed to operationalize the plant under state government directives.

Markets across the capital are also set for a facelift. Bhagabanpur, Badagada, Unit-4 Market, and Tarini Market will undergo modernization, while the much-awaited Street Food Hub at Pahala will be expedited to boost local entrepreneurship and tourism.

For slum dwellers, the government is working on a policy to provide permanent housing solutions. Plans include offering pucca houses or rental accommodations to ensure every resident has a stable address, reflecting the state’s commitment to inclusive urban development.

The Daruthenga area will see multiple projects including new roads, parks, community halls, and drainage systems. The Chief Minister will lay foundation stones for these initiatives.

In a bid to enhance sanitation, BMC will install Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in 30 public toilets across Bhubaneswar. This will enable recycling of wastewater, making facilities more sustainable and eco-friendly.
