Bhubaneswar, Sep 18: Starting today, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will launch a comprehensive stray dog census across the city. The enumeration will be conducted from September 18 to 25, covering all 67 wards of the capital.

The first phase of the census will start on September 18 and continue till September 20, while the second phase will commence from September 21 and continue till September 24. Each street and alley will be surveyed twice to avoid duplication and ensure thorough coverage.

A total of 410 teams have been deployed across Bhubaneswar to conduct the enumeration. These teams will move through every lane and locality, documenting the stray dog population with precision.

The initiative aims to gather reliable data to support future animal welfare policies, vaccination drives, and sterilization programs.

With growing concerns around stray dog management, this census is expected to play a crucial role in shaping humane and effective strategies.
