Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: Bhubaneswar Police have registered a case of sexual assault under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after a 16-year-old girl was found in a bloodied condition in the Ashok Nagar area late Friday evening.

The girl, who is currently undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital, was rescued by local police and admitted for medical care.

According to DCP Jagmohan Meena, a medico-legal case (MLC) was received from Capital Hospital on October 16 at 8:00 PM. The MLC mentioned a “psychic disorder” and a history of sexual assault. Based on this, the Inspector-in-Charge of Capital Police Station registered an FIR on his own.

The girl was found without any attendant or mobile phone. During the investigation, she claimed to be from Jharkhand. Her address is currently being verified with the assistance of Jharkhand Police. However, her identity and age are yet to be officially confirmed, despite the MLC stating she is 16 years old.

Police are also examining CCTV footage from the hospital to determine how she arrived and whether anyone accompanied her. Investigators are working to trace her movements and understand how she reached Bhubaneswar from Jharkhand. The girl’s statements have been recorded, but officials noted that her version of events has been inconsistent, possibly due to her mental condition.

DCP Meena emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that no conclusions will be drawn until all facts are verified. “We are coordinating with Jharkhand Police to trace her background. Since she had no belongings or known contacts with her, we are exploring all angles,” he said.

The complete medical report is still awaited, and further action will be taken based on the findings. Authorities are also trying to contact her family, but no communication has been established so far.

The case has raised serious concerns about the safety of minors. Police have assured that all efforts are being made to uncover the truth and ensure justice for the victim.
