Crime / Bhubaneswar: Passenger Robbed of Rs14,000 in ‘Ama Bus’; Chaos Over Halt

Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: A passenger was allegedly robbed of Rs14,000 inside a crowded Ama Bus (city bus) traveling from AIIMS to Baramunda here in Odisha on Tuesday. The theft triggered panic among commuters and led to a prolonged halt as the victim demanded immediate action.

The Incident

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was packed with passengers when the youth discovered his cash was missing from his possession. He stopped the bus near Baramunda and raised an alarm, forcing the driver and conductor to cooperate in a search.

Passenger Checks

The victim insisted on a thorough inspection, and the bus remained stationary for nearly 20 minutes. Passengers were asked to open their bags, while bus staff assisted in the checks. The Police Control Room (PCR) van was also called, and police joined the search.

Suspect Escapes

Despite the extensive scrutiny, the alleged culprit is suspected to have slipped away either before the police arrived or during the inspection. Local searches in the surrounding area yielded no immediate results.

Commuter Anger

The prolonged stoppage caused frustration among other passengers, many of whom expressed anger at being detained for nearly half an hour. The incident has raised questions about passenger safety in public transport and the need for stricter vigilance.

Police officials said investigations are underway, and efforts are being made to trace the suspect.
