Balangir, Aug 31: In a shocking incident, a14-year-old boy allegedly took his own life after being denied Rs300 for a mobile recharge in Odisha’s Balangir district on Monday.

The boy, identified as Devendra Banchhor of Kuliadara village under Kantabanji police limits, was found hanging from a tree with a rope, locals said.

According to the locals, Devendra had asked his family for Rs300 to recharge his mobile phone. When the demand was not met, he reportedly resorted to the extreme step. He was rescued in critical condition and rushed to Kantabanji hospital, where doctors declared him “brought dead”.

After getting information, Kantabanji Police initiated an investigation into the matter.
