Argus News - Bhubaneswar Celebrates 78th Foundation Day With Citywide Events

Bhubaneswar, Apr 13: Bhubaneswar marked its 78th Foundation Day on Monday with a series of official programmes and ceremonial events held across the city, witnessing participation from public representatives, officials and residents.

Main Event Near Assembly Draws Crowd
The main celebration was organised in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, where dignitaries and citizens gathered to commemorate the occasion.

Floral tributes were offered at the Foundation Day plaque as part of the official programme.

City Decked Up, Parade Adds Colour
Major squares across the city were decorated for the celebrations, attracting residents and visitors alike.

A colourful parade featuring school students was organised, along with a public meeting, adding vibrancy to the occasion as hundreds gathered at different locations.

Dignitaries Attend, Awards Presented
Several prominent personalities, including Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, and Mayor Sulochana Das, were present at the event along with other distinguished guests.

On the occasion, eminent individuals were honoured with the ‘Rajdhani Gaurav Samman’ for their contributions.

Historic Day For Odisha’s Capital
The Foundation Day marks April 13, 1948, when Bhubaneswar was designated as the capital of Odisha.

The historic event was attended by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who formally inaugurated the city in its new role.
