Bhubaneswar, Nov 9: A Bhubaneswar-based real estate businessman has been arrested for allegedly promoting online orders of Mahaprasad through a website named shreeprasad.org.

 

The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by the Shreemandir security administration at Singhadwar Police Station.

 

The website featured advertisements offering Mahaprasad delivery and displayed a mobile number for placing orders. Authorities stated that such activities not only violate temple sanctity but also hurt the religious sentiments of devotees by misrepresenting the sacred rituals associated with Jagannath Temple.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) took swift action after discovering the promotional content, which was deemed misleading and unauthorized. The accused was found to be operating the website without any official permission from the temple authorities.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. The charges include sections 299, 318(2), 318(4), 319(2), 336(2), 336(3), 336(4), 340(2), and 356(2) read with 3(5) of BNS, along with 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act.

 

Officials emphasized that the sanctity of Mahaprasad and the temple’s traditions must be preserved, and any attempt to commercialize or misrepresent them will be dealt with strictly. The case serves as a warning against unauthorized digital activities involving religious institutions.

 

The police are continuing their investigation to determine if others are involved in such acts.
