Eviction Drive / BDA Reclaims Two Acres of Encroached Government Land in Shampur, Demolishes 58 Illegal Structures

Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: The Enforcement Wing of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), with police assistance, on Thursday reclaimed nearly two acres of encroached government land in Shampur under the Bharatpur Police Station limits by demolishing 58 illegal structures.

The eviction drive was conducted under the direction of BDA Vice-Chairman Chanchal Rana and supervised by Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Jena as part of the authority's ongoing anti-encroachment campaign aimed at freeing government land for planned urban development and public infrastructure projects.

58 Illegal Structures Razed
During the first phase of the operation, enforcement teams demolished 38 asbestos cement (AC) sheet houses, four under-construction reinforced cement concrete (RCC) houses, 15 bathrooms, one under-construction iron shed and nearly 100 feet of boundary wall built on government land.

Heavy earthmoving machinery was deployed for the demolition, while police personnel were stationed at the site to maintain law and order.

Eviction Followed Legal Process
According to BDA officials, the eviction drive was carried out after following due legal procedures. The authority had issued eviction notices to the occupants and repeatedly announced the proposed action through public address systems, urging them to vacate the land voluntarily.

Officials said adequate time was provided for the occupants to remove their belongings before the demolition began.

BDA Vows to Continue Drive
BDA Vice-Chairman Chanchal Rana said the authority would continue its anti-encroachment campaign until all unauthorised occupations on government land are removed.

He urged people occupying government land without authorisation to vacate voluntarily and cooperate with the administration, stating that reclaiming public land is essential for planned urban growth and the execution of future development projects in Bhubaneswar.
