The accused Sipu Kumar (45) of Pipara, Patna district, Bihar—an interstate criminal was wanted in multiple cases of murder, armed dacoity, robbery, and extortion.
Acting on reliable inputs about the presence of the accused, police raided a jungle area near Tankura village, Barbil. In an attempt to escape, Kumar opened fire at the police team. Demonstrating courage and restraint, the police retaliated in self-defence, leading to a controlled encounter.
During this, the accused sustained injuries and was immediately shifted to CHC, Barbil for treatment.

A country-made pistol was recovered from his possession. Authorities confirmed that Kumar had been absconding for years, evading arrest across Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
