Baleshwar teacher caught red‑handed for misbehaving with a minor girl; police act under POCSO. Similar case in Baragada raises alarm over student safety in Odisha schools and colleges.

Baleshwar, Oct 10: A shocking incident has once again tainted the sanctity of the teacher‑student relationship. In Jayanagar Government Primary School under Chandipur police limits, a teacher was caught red‑handed for allegedly misbehaving with a minor girl student.

According to reports, the accused repeatedly called a Class V girl into the classroom during recess and engaged in inappropriate conduct, including “bad touch.”

Despite repeated complaints from parents and villagers, no action had been taken earlier, and the teacher allegedly continued his misconduct.

On Saturday, during the recess period, the teacher was again found misbehaving with the girl. This time, villagers and parents caught him red‑handed, thrashed him, and handed him over to Chandipur police.

Based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s family, police detained the teacher and began investigation.

Since the case involves sexual harassment of a minor, police confirmed that strict action will be taken under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with suspension proceedings.

Parents and villagers have demanded stringent punishment against the accused to ensure such incidents are not repeated.

This incident follows a similar case reported recently from Baradola in Baragada district, where a Class X boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a teacher under the pretext of tuition.

The accused, identified as Debadatta Pradhan, principal of a private college, reportedly took the student to a hotel and abused him. The boy’s family later lodged a police complaint.
