Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: In a major initiative aimed at empowering women and enhancing their livelihood opportunities, the Odisha Government has approved the Ama Subahaka Yojana, a new scheme that will provide interest-free car loans to women across the state.
The program, titled Atmanirbhar Mahila Subahak or Aama Subahak Yojana, is expected to be implemented soon.The scheme aims to boost women’s participation in the transport sector and enhance their livelihood opportunities.
While the beneficiaries will repay the principal amount in easy installments over five years, the state government will bear the interest burden at an annual rate of 11%. This financial support is expected to significantly reduce the repayment pressure on women entrepreneurs.
According to officials, the scheme targets to support 1,100 women over the next four years. Beneficiaries will repay the loan in easy installments over a five-year period.

The initiative has been approved by the Department of Commerce and Transport and is seen as a significant step toward women’s financial independence.
By enabling women to own and operate vehicles, the government aims to create sustainable employment, promote entrepreneurship, and improve mobility for women across the state.
