Bhubaneswar, Dec 20: A tusker undergoing treatment in Chandaka forest is showing signs of recovery after a medical team administered antibiotics to treat a large hematoma on its left leg.
On Friday, the elephant was tranquilized with the help of drones and a specialized veterinary team comprising 20 doctors, assisted by forest officials.
According to reports, experts used a dart gun to sedate the animal. Once unconscious, preliminary examinations revealed a major hematoma near its left ankle.

✨A metal detector was used to check for the presence of
bullets, but none were found. The affected area was then slightly incised to
drain clotted blood, followed by the application of antibiotic sprays and pain
relief medication. The tusker was also administered six bottles of saline
during the procedure, which lasted over two and a half hours.

After treatment, an antidote was given to reverse the sedation, and the elephant was released back into the forest. Forest officials have kept a close watch on its movements since then.
Authorities said the tusker will again be administered antibiotics today using dart guns to aid recovery. If the swelling does not subside naturally, the animal may have to be tranquilized once more for surgical intervention.
