Balangir, Jan 17: A woman from Odisha has appealed to the Government of India for help after alleging that her husband sold her to another family, following which she was taken to Dubai, where she is currently stranded.

The woman made the appeal through a video message, seeking immediate intervention for her rescue and safe return to India.

According to a source, the woman, Hasta Bisi, a resident of Jagua village, had entered into a love marriage with Prema Mahananda of Burabandha village under Titilagarh police station limits in Balangir district. The couple reportedly eloped from home and later lived in Mumbai, where they worked as daily wage labourers.

It has now been alleged that Prema Mahananda sold his wife to another family. The woman was subsequently taken to Dubai, where she continues to live under distressing circumstances.

The woman’s minor daughter has also appealed to authorities for her mother’s rescue. Family members say they were unaware of the woman’s situation for several years.

The woman’s father said, "Prema Mahananda sold my daughter to a muslim man in Dubai around 7 years ago. I was not aware of that, as I thought she might have gone there for work and would come back. But, now I am sure that she has been sold by her husband to that Muslim man."

In her video message, Hasta Bisi said, "I appeal to the Government of India to please take me home from Dubai as I do not want to stay here for a moment. I want to meet my family and children. Please help me."

Her minor daughter Payal Mahananda, breaking down while speaking, said, "I was very small when my parents went to Mumbai. I want my mother back. I really miss her. I appeal to the authorities to help my mother return to Odisha."
