Bhubaneswar, Dec 2: Bhubaneswar police have filed a comprehensive 680-page chargesheet in the sensational murder case of woman constable Shubhamitra Sahoo.
The chargesheet, submitted by Capital Police Station Inspector Bipin Bihari Hota, details the investigation, evidence, and witness testimonies against three accused individuals.
The prime accused is Shubhamitra’s husband, Deepak Rout, who
allegedly conspired with his cousin Vinod Bihari Bhuyan and associate Sambhu Mahanta
to commit the crime. According to the chargesheet, the motive behind the murder
was financial. Shubhamitra had lent money to Deepak for their formal marriage
ceremony, and when she demanded repayment, tensions escalated.

Investigators revealed that Deepak had also taken out a ₹25 lakh insurance policy in Shubhamitra’s name, allegedly to benefit financially after her death.

The chargesheet cites provisions under sections 103(1), 238, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). It consolidates testimonies from 42 witnesses, along with forensic evidence, financial records, and circumstantial details that trace the relationship between Shubhamitra and the accused, leading up to the murder. Police believe the financial dispute and insurance policy were key factors driving the crime.
