Balasore, Sep 6: A six-hour shutdown was observed in Khaira block of Balasore district today, as residents and local organizations protested the exclusion of Khaira from the recently announced list of Notified Area Councils (NACs) by the Odisha government.

The bandh, which began early in the morning, saw complete closure of shops, markets, government offices, and educational institutions across the region. Protesters also blocked key roads, including the Soro-Kupari route, disrupting vehicular movement and causing traffic snarls throughout the day.

Local leaders and citizens expressed strong resentment over the government's decision to leave Khaira out of the NAC declaration, despite its long-standing demand and previous assurances.
