Nayagarh, Jan 24: Shock and outrage gripped Odisha’s Nayagarh district after two separate incidents of sexual assault on minor girls were reported on Thursday.


In the first case, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old man, identified as Prashant Nayak, along with a 14-year-old boy in the Ranapur area.


Police said the victim was lured to an isolated spot while playing with friends. The girl’s mother reportedly caught the duo in the act when the minor boy was assaulting her.


“Investigations into the matter are currently underway. We have arrested the two primary accused, and the victim has undergone medical examinations,” said Ranpur Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Asishdev Sahoo.


A forensic team also visited the scene to collect evidence.


In a separate incident in Sarankul area of Nayagarh, an 8-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a minor boy.


According to police, the girl was returning home after visiting her neighbour’s house when the accused took her to an isolated place and assaulted her.

“The accused has been arrested, and the medical examinations of the victims have been conducted. Investigations into both cases are currently underway,” said Nayagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Deepti Pradhan.


Both incidents have sparked widespread concern over the safety of children in the district, with locals demanding stricter preventive measures and swift justice for the victims.
