Kolkata, Oct 23: A live World War II-era bomb was discovered in Laudaha village near Bolpur in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. The bomb, unearthed near the banks of the Ajay River, was first spotted by local fishermen who noticed a mysterious cylinder-like metal object.
On alert, official reached the spot and upon investigation the area was cordoned off, and locals were advised not to visit the site.
Later, Army officials were informed, who made inspections before deciding to defuse the bomb.
According to reports, the bomb was defused on Wednesday through a controlled explosion. The impact of the blast was so intense that tremors were felt in surrounding villages.
