Kolkata, Nov 29: Eminent Odissi dancer Dona Ganguly, wife of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, lodged a police complaint after facing obscene and body-shaming remarks on social media following her troupe’s performance at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).
According to the police sources, the abuse started shortly after her performance at Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) earlier this month.
It all started after a Facebook page uploaded multiple clips and photos of her performance and paired them with insulting remarks about her appearance, weight, and costume.
The post contained obscene language and derogatory comments, prompting the dancer to take legal action.
In her complaint, Dona Ganguly submitted screenshots of the offensive posts along with a mobile number allegedly linked to the account responsible for uploading them. She described these acts as defamatory, asserting that the posts were intended to malign her reputation and tarnish her honour.

Acting on her complaint, police registered a case and initiated a probe.
The Cyber Cell has initiated a technical investigation to identify those behind the Facebook page, employing methods such as tracking digital footprints, IP addresses, and linked contact details. Officials confirmed that the case will be pursued under legal provisions pertaining to cyber harassment, defamation, and online abuse

As the investigation continues, the Kolkata Police have assured that the necessary steps will be taken to identify and charge those responsible.
"We are working to identify the individuals responsible
for the offensive posts. We are tracing the posts and the associated mobile
number to identify the perpetrators," added the senior official.
